Specialist school pump track construction contractor Conservefor were appointed to work to a design, created by expert pump track designers Architrail, for a bespoke pump track specifically for use by primary school aged pupils.
The 120m design included a start hill, separate entry and exit ramps, jumps, rollers and tarmac berms all designed for use by younger riders to enable the pupils to improve their riding skills for use on the school’s regular riding trips around Europe and also allow the school to host interschool pump track events and competitions.
As the pump track was to be constructed on a school field during opening hours Conservefor implemented extensive safety procedures to ensure the safety of pupils at all times and minimizing the disruption to the day to day running of the school.
All of Conservefor’s experienced trail builders are DBS checked to ensure their suitability to work in schools. Before works commenced rigorous risk assessments were carried out and school field was secured with high fencing, to be inspected daily. All deliveries, storage of materials and access were to be managed from a compound outside the school boundary, away from any exits or routes used by parents and pupils. Access and egress routes from the compound and work area were clearly marked and adhered to ensure limited damage by plant to the school field. Regular meetings were also held with the teachers and staff to keep them informed of planned work and address any enquiries.
